Recently, the "Texelstroom", one of the world's first hybrid passenger ferry boats, has been delivered to the Koninklijke Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming.
This symmetrical ferry is a new generation of ferries powered by Anglo Belgian Corporation's (ABC) efficient medium-speed dual-fuel engine. The “Texelstroom†will be delivered between Denver and Texel in the Netherlands and will transport up to 1,750 passengers and 350 motor vehicles.
The shipowner Royal TESO announced on May 8, 2014 that it has signed an agreement with the LaNaval shipyard in northern Spain to build a new ferry. After more than two years of construction, it cost 600,000 hours of manpower, and the successful delivery of the ship also marks a new era for the ferry transport industry in terms of emission reduction. Compared to existing ferries, the hybrid “Texelstroom†uses a variety of different energy sources, greatly reducing the environmental impact.
It is reported that the ferry is 135.4 meters long. ABC Company supplied 4 main engines for the ferry, including 2 dual fuel (natural gas + diesel) generator sets, a single power of 2 MW / 1000 rpm; and 2 diesel generator sets, single Power 2 MW / 750 rpm. One of the great advantages of ABC's dual fuel engines is the very flexible fuel system that significantly increases efficiency. Ship operators can also flexibly choose natural gas or diesel fuel by quickly switching fuels and using a combination of 700 square meters of solar photovoltaic panels installed on top of the ferry.
