Green tire industrialization speed related regulations are brewing

Green tires will become the development direction of the domestic tire industry in the next few years.

Fan Rende, president of the China Rubber Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as “China Rubber Association”), recently stated at the “2012 China Rubber Annual Conference” that at present, China’s tire industry has reached a consensus on promoting the development of green tire industrialization. The association will refer to EU tire labels. Law and REACH regulations, combined with China's energy-saving requirements, formulate green tire industrialization laws and regulations in line with national conditions. The industry believes that this means that China's green tire industrialization strategy has been officially launched, and it will point out a clear direction for industrial adjustment and technology upgrading in the tire industry.

Green tire industrialization is imminent In recent years, China's tire exports are facing technical barriers such as tire labeling and trade friction. Many countries have imposed higher requirements on tire performance. More and more countries are brewing or have implemented tire label regulations. For example, since Japan began to implement the voluntary tire labeling system in 2010, the United States passed the regulations including the tire labeling regulations as early as six years ago, and the European Union and South Korea will implement the mandatory tire labeling regulations from November 1 this year. The global market share of green tires will increase by more than 15%.

In contrast, the lack of definition of domestic green tires, lack of standards, and inadequate detection methods have restricted China's tire industry upgrading and product structure adjustment.

"The tyres are labelled with similar energy-efficiency labels for refrigerators, and the performance of tyres can be improved through the classification of fuel consumption, wet grip, etc., thereby achieving energy conservation and environmental protection." Fan Rende said that China is only starting to develop similar standards and norms. There is a gap with the United States, Japan and Europe.

He called for drawing on the integration model of EU enterprises, governments, and associations to formulate national standards, grant certain subsidies to enterprises that meet the standards, and promote the industrialization of green tires in phases, thereby promoting technology upgrading in the tire industry, restraining investment impulses, and enhancing industrial concentration. To enhance the international competitiveness of products and enhance the international image of Chinese products.

According to the plan, China's future 50% of companies will be able to produce green tires, and 25% of green tire production will exceed the target of ordinary radial tires.

“At present, more than 40% of tires produced in China are exported. The EU is the largest export market for automobile tires in China. Although the EU REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals) and tire labeling regulations are typical non-tariff trade barriers, At the same time, it is also an important opportunity for the transformation and upgrading of the tire industry in China, which forces China to adjust the industrial structure of the tire industry as soon as possible, implement a low-carbon economic strategy, and promote the development of green tire industrialization, said Fan Rende.

He disclosed that the association had organized related companies to visit Europe and organized tire labeling training. The next step will be to establish a green tire industrialization regulation that is in line with international conditions and in line with national conditions.

According to Zhao Wenquan, deputy secretary-general of the China Rubber Association and director of the Technical and Economic Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has held a roundtable meeting with relevant EU parties on green tire issues and agreed in principle to establish a green tire soft project. The development of self-discipline standards for green tire products led by China Rubber Association has also started. The standard will mainly refer to the EU labeling law, REACH and other international standards and regulations, limit the tire rolling resistance, slippery performance and noise and other indicators, and according to China's actual situation, plans to be energy consumption, pollutant emissions, renovation and restitution, etc. Indicators are also included. After the introduction of self-discipline standards, it will further apply for industry standards and national standards.

A number of heads of tire companies said that although the industrialization of green tires is difficult and needs to be innovated in terms of raw materials and processes, it is necessary to achieve tire product upgrades, increase international market share, introduce green tire standards, and improve related inspection methods. It is better to be late.

High-performance tires into an inevitable trend According to reports, the overall requirements of green tires include three aspects: First, green raw materials, that is, non-toxic harmless raw materials, in line with the EU REACH standards; Second, the green production process, to achieve low energy consumption, low noise, Low dust, low smoke production; Third, the product is green, to meet the requirements of fuel economy, safety, high wear resistance, can be refurbished.

Among these, high-performance raw materials are of great significance for green tires. Experts believe that after implementing the tire labeling method and the improvement of energy-saving emission reduction targets in many countries and regions, the performance of tires will become an inevitable trend.

Industry sources pointed out that SSBR can be used as a tread rubber for high-performance tires to comprehensively improve tire performance. However, due to cost and processing technology considerations, most tire companies in China use slightly cheaper butadiene styrene rubber, and the use of high-performance SSBR is low. Moreover, domestic-made SSBR is only equivalent to the first-generation or second-generation foreign products, while foreign countries have now developed third-generation, fourth-generation or even fifth-generation SSBR. The former has a certain gap between the product serialization and quality and the requirements of tire companies.

"The demand for SSBR is relatively low and domestic tire processing and application conditions are relatively low, and the proportion of high-end cars is small. For this reason, SSBR manufacturers should increase technical input, increase the SSBR product number, and strive to improve product quality." Industry experts said .

It is understood that in recent years, China has carried out many research and development and technological reforms of styrene butadiene rubber, such as butadiene-styrene block copolymers synthesized by the Institute of Chemical Engineering of Dalian University of Technology and Yanshan Petrochemical Institute with n-butyllithium as initiator. The copolymer has not only good physical and mechanical properties, but also low rolling resistance and high wet skid resistance compared with common solution styrene-butadiene rubber.
